Retreat Itinerary

Day 1 – Journey Begins Denpasar > Surabaya > Bromo

  • Midday flight from Denpasar to Surabaya.
  • The drive from Surabaya to Mount Bromo follows winding asphalt roads through lush teak forests, villages, and volcanic plains. Dramatic landscapes unfold as you ascend steep hairpin turns, offering panoramic views of smoke over Bromo’s crater amid green black sands.
  • Afternoon hike to the summit of the caldera of Mount Bromo.

Standing at 2,329 meters, Gunung Bromo is one of Indonesia’s most iconic volcanoes, part of the active Tengger caldera formed over a million years ago. Its last eruption occurred in 2015. The crater, 800 meters wide, is revered as sacred. During the Yadnya Kasada ceremony, Tenggerese Hindus climb its rim to throw offerings into its smoking depths, seeking blessings and balance.

Day 2: Sunrise at Bromo & Journey to Surabaya

  • Along the way: lush rice paddies, Javanese villages, and glimpses of Mount Merapi.
  • Check-in to a charming colonial villa.
  • Evening yoga & dinner.

Jogja, the soul of Java, is a living museum of tradition, royalty, and resistance. Home to the Sultan’s palace and thriving art communities, Jogja remains a center for classical Javanese culture, from wayang puppetry to gamelan. Its streets pulse with creativity—artists, students, and seekers shaping the city’s vibrant energy. Despite modernization, it retains a deeply rooted sense of identity and spiritual rhythm that enchants every traveler.

Day 4: Culture & Creativity

  • Morning yoga & breakfast.
  • Visit the Taman Sari Water Palace.
Taman Sari was a pleasure garden for the Sultan of Jogja in the 18th century, featuring pools, pavilions, and hidden tunnels—a blend of fantasy and fortification, designed
    for retreat and ritual.
  • Walk to the Kraton (Sultan’s Palace).
  • Lunch at the Kraton.

The Kraton of Yogyakarta (Jogja) is more than a palace—it is a cultural heart, where the Sultan reigns as both spiritual leader and custodian of tradition.

Built in the 18th century, it embodies Javanese cosmology with sacred architecture and ceremonial courtyards. Dancers, musicians, and artisans still work here, preserving ancient practices. A walk through its halls is a step back into regal Java, where time bends to the rhythm of ritual and story.

  • Afternoon Batik class.
Batik is the soul of Javanese textile art. Using wax-resist techniques, artisans handcraft intricate patterns passed down through generations. In Central Java, batik is both ceremonial and everyday wear—each motif rich with meaning, representing harmony, fertility,
    and protection.
  • Visit Langgeng Art Foundation.
Jogja is Indonesia’s creative epicenter. Contemporary artists here push boundaries, blending tradition with commentary on identity and politics. The city’s art scene is bold, raw, and spiritual reflecting Java’s deep soul and modern awakening. Galleries like Langgeng challenge perceptions and amplify Indonesia’s artistic voice globally.

Borobudur, a 9th-century Mahayana Buddhist monument, is the world’s largest Buddhist temple.

Built with over 2 million volcanic stones, it represents a sacred mandala rising from the earth in tiers of enlightenment. Its 72 bell-shaped stupas crown the summit, each with a Buddha inside. Abandoned for centuries and rediscovered under jungle cover, Borobudur is now a UNESCO World Heritage site and a pilgrimage for spiritual seekers worldwide.

Day 6: Jogja’s Senses

  • Morning yoga & breakfast.

Its main spire soars 47 meters high, surrounded by elaborately carved shrines. Abandoned after a 10th-century earthquake, it now stands restored and majestic. At sunset, the temple glows with divine presence, a poetic blend of devotion and grandeur that whispers legends in stone.
  • Dinner & Ramayana Ballet performance.
The Ramayana Ballet at Prambanan retells an ancient Sanskrit epic through Javanese dance and music. With dramatic masks and gamelan rhythms, it portrays the tale of Rama, Sita, and Hanuman. It’s a living fusion of mythology and tradition—a performance passed down as both entertainment and sacred ritual.
