OWR Diary: August 2011
The month of August is the busiest in Bali and the streets of Ubud are filled with travelers from around the world, it creates a special energy to see so many happy people enjoying their yearly holiday.
This week is very special, on Thursday August 18th there will be a royal cremation in Ubud, and for all of us at Kumara it is quite touching as it is the cremation of the mother of Tjokorda Gede Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati, owner of Kumara. Ibu Anak Agung Niang Rai, she was the third wife of the last king and the last queen of Ubud and a very respected woman. The preparation for her funeral have taken almost two months, the tower that will carry her corpse to the cremation site is 23 meters tall and weight approximately six tons. Once again the Balinese are proving that the law of physic can be broken, the synergy will allow 165 man to lift this tower and walk to the cremation site located 800 meters away from the palace, an amazing performance of total dedication.
For Iyan and I, we are now getting ready for our journey to France, how exciting! This unique Escape to Bordeaux retreat held in a beautiful castle near the city of Bordeaux is for us a way to re-connect with participants of previous retreats and to meet new people, there are still a few spaces available.
Are you a writer or a reader? From October 5th until 9th, thousands of people will participate in the 8th Ubud Writers and Readers Festival, Needless to say, the small town of Ubud becomes alive with nights of poetry, book launch and amazing workshops. For the second year, to celebrate this festival oneworld retreats offers a post-festival retreat/workshop program, this year the program ‘Write for your Life’ is lead by Jeremiah Abrams a well known author from California.
Wishing you a nice day… every day!
Much love from Bali,
