Writer’s retreat in Bali

Saturday, August 6th, 2011

This October, the second writer’s retreat will take place at the retreat center ONEWORLD retreats Kumara in Ubud, Bali.  In 2010, Joanna Penn and Robin Sparks led the first retreat at Kumara that was not related to yoga or meditation. The ‘Write and Sell that Book’ retreat was a huge success and the perfect prelude for the Ubud Writers and Readers Festival.  This year the writer’s retreat will be led by Jeremiah Abrams, a Jungian psychotherapist and author, based in the San Francisco Bay area of California. His Write for your Life retreat focuses on narrative writing, ultimately a quest for self-knowledge.

Jeremiah: ‘Like good therapy, writing helps you rewrite the narrative of your life in a way that you can live with it. Most writers will confess that their writing consists primarily of listening to their inner voices and scribing what they hear. Whether you are a beginner or are writing a dissertation or a novel, the power of your prose starts and ends with a strong narrative voice. ‘

In this 6 night workshop you will employ the skills of reflection, re-writing, editing and syntax to sharpen your words and strengthen your writing style and confidence in your voice. The workshop starts with a shamanic journey to draw forward your authentic voice. You’ll then turn to writing, rewriting, free writing, editing, reading aloud, feedback and discussion. There is also enough time to relax, enjoy spa treatments, join yoga classes and explore the wonders of Bali.

This retreat will be preceded by the Ubud Writers Festival, from October 5 – 9.

Quality family time in BALI

AUGUST 8 – 13, 2010

ONEWORLD retreats – Kumara is one of the only few places that offers the opportunity for both parents and children to practice Yoga and relax in the beauty of an inspiring environment. Besides being the best island in the world, Bali is filled with traditions and wisdom.

Our intention is to offer families opportunities to live memorable experiences during and after the journey. Discovering a far away culture that embraces ancient traditions and modern comfort helping to support our search for our true potential in a nurturing environment.

By mixing with less fortunate Balinese natives, western kids have the opportunity to discover a reality that should undeniably help them express feeling of sharing, compassion, open their eyes and hearts to gratefulness and thankfulness.
